Pick and Tuck aka "Tucker" is a 20 year old Thoroughbred Gelding. Tucker was raced up until the age of 7. Then he was retired from racing and was bought by an off track Thoroughbred retraining barn.
After this his history gets a little lost. Tucker was found in 2003 by Alexis. Alexis was looking for a summer project horse and actually went to look at a young mare that was for sale at this same barn. While the mare wouldn't let Alexis within 100 feet, Tucker wouldn't leave her alone. So she grabbed her tack and tried him out.
At this time Tucker was barely 500 lbs and had rain rot from head to tail. Alexis took one ride and fell in love. A week later she was back with the trailer and a check for $500 and she had her first horse!
The first part of the summer was spent getting weight back on Tucker. Then came the retraining, both on the ground and under saddle. Tucker had a rough life up until he came to Walnut Ridge in 2003. Tucker was a true rescue as he wouldn't let you touch his face and if you moved too quickly he would shy. Luckily this wasn't Alexis' first abuse case.
She and Tucker worked for a long time on their relationship and at the end of that summer went out for their first horse show. Lets just say that was the start of a long relationship to come.
Seven years later you will still find Tucker in the show barn and Alexis' number one horse. Tucker went to Virginia Tech with Alexis and has since made the move to Florida with her as well.
Tucker has now become the schoolmaster teaching the younger (and some older) students how to ride and the basics of Dressage. Tucker and Alexis are also working on getting up to 2nd level and are still getting out to local events. Come out and visit Tucker anytime, just make sure you bring some peppermints!
